Immigrant Processing Stations at the Port of New York

19 Apr. 1890-31 Dec. 1891: Barge Office

15 June 1897-16 Dec. 1900: Barge Office
17 Dec. 1900-1924: Ellis Island

Note that from about June 15th 1897 until approximately March or April 1903, the lists for first class and second class passengers were not collected at Ellis Island and do not survive, and do not appear on microfilm, nor in the Ellis Island online database.

This does not mean there are no passenger lists for this time period. There are lists, but most are not complete, as the 1st and 2nd class passenger names are missing. You can verify if the list you are browsing is complete by checking the Captain's total of passengers with your own count of the passenger names on the manifest
