Orphan & Orphanage RecordsOrphans in the Orphans Home & Female Aid Society in Toronto Ontario Canada St Patrick's Ward, Toronto, York, OntarioIn 1851 the Orphans Home & Female Aid Society opened with 30 children. By 1864 there were 70 orphans. In 1864 18 children died in one month of measles. In the 1860s Mrs. Mary Holmes was the Matrion. In 1865 Mrs. Large was the Matron, then in the 1880s Miss Jane Wheelwright took over as Matron, a position she held for 28 years. In 1897 Miss Deacon was appointed the new Matron of the Orphan Home.Staff in 1881
