NEW YORK VAN SLYKE BIBLE 1729
The Bible next appears to pass into another branch of the Van Slyke family. Only Adrian (the scribe of the entries) seems to have married, but been childless. The next genealogical entries are in a different hand, and are for the family of Harmanus Van Slyke and wife Annetje (Nancy) Haverly. Harmanus was Adrian's cousin, and we suspect that Adrian passed the Bible to them for safekeeping in the family.
The next entries were written and begin in 1798 with the marriage of Harmanus and Annetje, and end with the death of Annetje (Nancy) Haverly Van Slyke's mother, Annatje (Nancy) Adams Haverly in 1813. There are a few more entries in yet another hand, but they are for a family I am unable to connect to the Van Slykes.
Harmanus Van Slyke was a double Van Slyke, as his father was Anthony Van Slyke; his mother Clara Van Slyke. Clara, his mother, was the sister of Cornelis who first owned the Bible (thus daughter of Adrian Van Slyke and Breghie Toll). Anthony was her cousin and was the son of Harmanus Van Slyke and Lydia Vedder, grandson of Cornelis Van Slyke and Claartje Bradt. If we look at a diagram we see the intertwined lineages (the starred names are those who owned the Bible):
For those interested, I descend from the sister of Cornelis Van Slyke and brother of Claartje Bradt (Generation 3)
