SHIPS PASSENGER LISTS
DRAGON 1749 to PennsylvaniaSept.26, 1749. Foreigners from the Palatinate and Zweibrucken. Georg Spencer, Master, from Rotterdam, last from Deal. - 563 passengers.
Note A: Conrad Caballero sends this note: Betty Naff writes to The Olive Tree: Regarding the list of passengers for the ship Dragon.
I have an ancestor,Jacob Naff, who arrived on the ship Dragon,
26. Sept. 1749, Rotterdam by way of Deal, List 137C,
(This was the list of signers of the oath of abjuration).
I believe the Jacob Ness you have listed as a passenger on the Dragon
was Jacob Naff, as stated in the book, "Naff and Related Families,
Swiss Ancestors of Naffs & Neffs in the USA and Descendants of Jacob
& Eva Catherine (Flora)And of Sebastian and Mary (Saylor) Naff," by
John Wesley Boitnott, Phd.,Printed by Park View Press, Harrisonburg,
VA, 1979. Dr. Boitnott's source for this information was, "Pennsylvania German
Pioneers,A Publication of the Original Lists of Arrivals in the Port of
Philadephia, from 1927 to 1808," by Ralph Beaver Strassaburger and William
John Hinke,
1934. Volume I, page 414. The name Naff was often mistakenly read as Ness or Neff. Thought you might
like to make a correction or notation on your list.
